Vermont Supreme Court Chief Justice Paul Reiber was recently a guest on Vermont Public Radio's Vermont Edition program. Chief Justice Reiber discussed many topics, including his journey to becoming Vermont's chief Supreme Court justice, the impact of federal immigration policies on Vermonters, and the financial health of Vermont's court system.
Chief Justice Reiber also talked about the impact of the opioid addiction crisis on Vermont's courts and efforts that courts are making to respond to the crisis.
"One of the stresses that happens is that the courts wind up as a place where the problems in local communities become very manifest," Chief Justice Reiber said. "We are facing a huge increase in child protection cases in Vermont. Anecdotally, this is related to addiction."
